Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia’s National Food Agency (Bapanas) has advised retailers not to pull mixed-quality, locally known as oplosan, rice from shelves but instead sell it at discounted prices based on quality levels.
“Why pull it? Just sell it cheap,” said NFA Chief Arief Prasetyo Adi on Thursday (17/7/2025) at the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs in Jakarta., as reported by antaranews.com
He explained that if rice contains a higher percentage of broken grains than premium standards allow, it should be sold according to its actual grade, if broken rice content is 40%, price it as such.
Retailers are also encouraged to recalibrate milling machines to meet quality specifications. Bapanas confirmed it will not issue a withdrawal order.
The Indonesian Retailers Association (Aprindo) has said they would not recall suspected mixed rice unless instructed officially. Retailers are seeking accountability from suppliers, as their contracts are based on premium-grade rice.
National regulations define strict quality standards for each rice category, including limits on broken grains and non-rice material.
